"What's Eating Your Child?" Book Review Part 1

Does your child ever suffer from ADHD, allergies, anxiety, autism, behavioural issues, colic, constipation, ear infections, eczema, frequent illness, picky eating, rashes, sleep problems or stomach-aches?  Could it be his/her diet?

I was pleasantly surprised this week when my older sister bought me the book, What's Eating Your Child by Kelly Dorfman.  I am already enjoying this book and would highly encourage you to read it, buy it, borrow it from me or follow some of my upcoming posts.  Dorfam believes there are nutritional solutions to many of our children's common ailments.  Her philosophy speaks to treating children with food and not drugs.

How Important Is Nutrition Really?
For me this chapter really touches on the ideas of "normal."
  • Just because other children eat these foods it doesn't mean they are good for them.
  • Just because other children get ear infections, moodiness, reflux and stomach-aches doesn't make them okay. This should not be as "normal."
A child's eating habit can begin at a very early age.  Most children find their own power over food around age two.  Keeping foods with sugar and flavour enhancers away is key to promoting proper nutrition and avoiding a "picky eater."  Dorfman includes a final solution; ""Don't have anything in your house you do not want your child to eat."

Follow along with me as we learn more about how nutrition will help our children. Look for future posts about, What's Eating Your Child.
